International Applicants

Special Considerations for International Applicants (any student who is not a permanent resident of the U.S.)

A) Applicants for whom English is a second language are required to demonstrate an acceptable level of spoken English usually by submitting a TOEFL or IELTS score.

(Required of all International Applicants unless they have received a degree in the U.S. during the past three years.) For admission to the MSETM program a TOEFL score of 100 (internet based test), 250 (computer based test) or 600 (paper based test) or above is required regardless of the number of semesters or terms completed in other institutions of higher education, including OSU, or prior enrollment in English language programs.  Alternatively, an official IELTS, academic stream, examination with a minimum overall band score of 7.5 will satisfy the English proficiency requirements for admission to a graduate program.  Either examination must have been taken within the last two years.   The TOEFL institution code for OSU is 6546.  For more information visit www.toefl.org or www.ielts.org.

B) A photocopy of your current Visa is required.

Students admitted to the U.S. with an F-1 Visa are generally not suited for this degree program since part of the admission standard is to be professionally employed in a technical position.  Prospective students with Visas classified as H-1, L-1 or L-2 may be suited for the program, provided they meet all other requirements.

C) Confirmation of financial resources is not required for prospective students who are not planning to reside in the U.S. (distance learners) or from those holding a work visa (H-1, L-1, L-2, etc.)  Additional documentation related to your status may be requested by the graduate college.
