Professional Development Certificate in
Engineering and Technology Management

Overview
The OSU Certificate in Engineering Management offers its participants the flexibility to tailor a career enhancing program that will complement their educational background.

For the individual...

A student who completes one required course plus eleven one-credit-hour elective ETM courses with an overall GPA of 3.0 or greater will receive a certificate issued by the ETM program and a notation on their official transcript indicating the successful completion of the program.  If the choice is made to then pursue a full Master of Science Degree in Engineering and Technology Management, all credit hours earned will transfer into that degree program.

For the company…

Company leadership may select one or more focus areas or individual courses as part of a company sponsored certificate program.  Focus areas are outlined on the facing page.   Participants must meet the usual standards for admission.  The number of credit hours required may vary depending on the companies needs.  Upon completion of the prescribed program participants  will receive a certificate of completion from their company and a transcript indicating completion of graduate level course work.

Admission
Students interested in pursuing an ETM certificate must follow the same admission procedures required of degree seeking students.  The four elements required in the admission package are:

  • An OSU Application for Graduate Admission form.
  • An Engineering and Technology Management application form.
  • An official copy of undergraduate transcripts.
  • $40.00 application fee.

Students who decide to pursue a Master of Science degree during or after completion of the certificate program can transfer all ETM certificate courses into their master’s degree plan.  Although many degree-seeking Engineering and Technology Management graduate students will choose to participate in the ETM certificate program, it is not necessary to complete the ETM degree in order to receive the certificate.  Likewise, participation by degree-seeking students in the certificate program is optional.

Sequence
The courses may be taken in any order; however it is recommended that students complete ETM 5111 at their first opportunity. A student may start the certificate program at any time after admission is granted and register for courses at a pace that they find suitable. Students enrolled in this program must complete all requirements within a four year time limit. Those interested in eventually becoming a degree candidate should note that the maximum time allowed for completion of a Master’s degree is seven years.

Schedules
Course schedules are made available on the ETM website typically 2-3 months prior to the beginning of class.  Courses are typically offered in 5-week time frames but the format may vary.  E-mail reminders are sent to those who wish to join our e-mail list.

CURRICULUM

The following is a list of courses that may be taken to complete the requirements of the certificate.  The list is only an example of how series' of courses could create a concentration in a particular subject area.  You may choose any course with an "ETM" prefix to fulfill the requirements of the certificates. New courses are offered each semester and will be posted on the semester course schedule in the Student Services area of this website.
